Rajasthan under North Western Railway (NWR) has re ceived 26% higher budgetary allocation in the Budget announced on Wednesday compared to last year. This has encouraged officials who are now optimistic to complete all ongoing and new projects for the modernization of the railways in the NWR division.
This is probably the highest growth in the budgetary allocation given for railways in state in the country.
The number of new trains to originate from Rajasthan has not yet been announced but officials hinted that the state will get trains under two circuits--tourism
increase in budget is good but on overall basis it is still seems to be very less as compared to allocation to other zones.
Flat growth in passenger earnings is probably due to no new services getting added during the last year.
Without increase in trains/frequency we cannot expect rise in income.
However, dip in freight earnings is the real cause of concern.
What could be the major reason for the dip in freight earnings?
Last year they got 1400 crore but hardly spent 400 crore
Allocation made last year to NWR was hopelessly low as compared to other zones. Even after impressive increase of 26% this year, the figure of 1405 crores is very less considering the size of NWR network. Since NWR mainly serves Rajasthan, a BJP ruled state, such negligence is surprising.
This is in stark contrast from previous regimes where opposition ruled states were targeted by central govt. This is a clear indication that funds are mostly allocated based on the requirements of IR and not on political considerations.

Every zone is different, each has its own budget requirements, the comparison with other zones for budget allocations is absolutely nonsensical. Its like comparing Apples with grapes..

Rise in income is expected from the practice of introducing more and more special trains as well as augmentation of coaches in existing trains.
