UDALGURI, June 29 - “The Railway Ministry should seriously think of plying more trains on the new BG route from Murkongselek to New Delhi. There is logical ground to reschedule the existing timetable of the Dekargao-Rangiya Junction Down passenger train in the collective interest of the travelling public.”
The above was voiced by a group of senior citizens here recently while talking to this correspondent. “We have decided to form a railway passengers’ committee in order to place our demand before the concerned authority to this effect”, they added.
The senior citizens also

said that passengers along the Murkongselek-Udalguri-Tangla route feel that the Railway Ministry should think about the needs of the poor people and introduce a superfast train from Murkongselek to New Delhi with stoppages at Lakhimpur, Gohpur, Rangapara Junction, Udalguri, Tangla, Rangiya, New Bongaigaon Junction, Kokrajhar, Alipurduar, Coochbehar, New Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Khagaria, Mansi, Begusarai, Barauni via Hajipur, Chapra, Sewan, Dewaria, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Allahabad and New Delhi, which would benefit thousands of New Delhi and Bihar, UP-bound people, particularly the large number of students studying outside the State from this region and employees.
They also suggested to the NF Railway authority to undertake a test-run of the superfast train to see the heavy rush of passengers in this route which would encourage the NF Railway authority to authorise regular running of this train at least three days a week. “We hope the NF Railway authority would take our demand seriously and with utmost sincerity,” they observed.
On the other hand, the senior citizens were of the view that there is no meaning of running a passenger train from Dekargaon in the evening as it is seen that there are two more express trains which can accommodate the passengers from Rangapara to Rangiya Junction during the night.
Rather, they reasoned that the Railways should run the Down Dekargaon-Rangiya passenger train in the daytime with departure at 2.00 pm from Dekargaon in order to facilitate the large number of students and Government employees, besides the day-to-day commuters of the region, to reach Rangiya Junction by 5 pm, so that they get sufficient time to board other express trains in order to travel outside the State. They also felt that the Down passenger train departing from Dekargaon for Rangiya Junction too should be extended upto the New Bongaigaon Junction for the benefit of the passengers on the route.
It may perhaps be pertinent to mention here that members of the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) discussed in detail about such problems in the first DRUCC meeting held on October 29, 2015 at the DRM conference hall in Rangiya Junction and subsequently submitted a memorandum to the DRM of Rangiya Division, where the Railway authority too assured to sympathetically look into the problems and solve them accordingly.

UDALGURI, May 31 – The NF Railway will run two more trains from Kamakhya and Rangiya junctions respectively within the next few days. This was informed to this correspondent by Akhilesh Verma, Senior Zonal Signal and Telecommunication Engineer of the NF railway here at Udalguri railway station recently. Talking to this correspondent, Verma said that the NF Railway was keen to serve the people of this region with the best it could do and as such it was keen to run the two much- needed trains – an intercity from Kamakhya junction in the morning for Murkongselek and a passenger train from Rangiya junction to Bhalukpong in Arunachal Pradesh in the morning to link the people of Arunachal Pradesh with this region.

his visit on the occasion of ongoing Railway fortnight, Verma also encouraged the railway passengers to inform the railway authority regarding the problems being faced by them. He also took stock of the facilities and problems being faced at the Udalguri railway station and came to know from the public that the station should be facilitated with a first class waiting room, ATM service, pure drinking water, enhancement of the present booking counter with at least two ticket booking counters to avoid the everyday heavy rush of passengers, provision of RPF patrolling in the evening, beautification, induction of more TTEs in the Rangiya-Rangapara trains etc. The railway officials appealed to the passengers to dial the security helpline No 182 for security purposes during their stay at the station or during a rail journey.
The general public of Udalguri and the railway passengers also put their feedback and suggestions in the drop box on the occasion most of which centred round the demand of stoppage of the Naharlagun-New Delhi AC Express train at Udalguri railway station arguing that Udalguri being the district head quarter has easy access to the nearby army, BSF, SSB camps along the Indo-Bhutan border and Arunachal Pradesh near Bhairabkunda which is a tourist spot as also a border place of Bhutan, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The railway officer accompanied by Hrishikesh Deka, Chief Commercial Inspector of NF Railway and others gave a patient hearing to the public grievances on the occasion and assured to place their demands before the top railway authority.

JONAI, Jan 29 – Claiming that the broad gauge (BG) conversion work of the Rangiya-Murkongselek route of the NF Railway has been completed, the railway authority is set to operate passenger train service there from March 15 this year.
NF Railway sources said that the 155-km railway stretch from North Lakhimpur to Murkongselek (Jonai) has been completed and the construction wing of NF Railway is all set to hand over the same to the traffic wing for operation of passenger trains.
Meanwhile,

construction engineers of the NF Railway are confident of completing the Bogibeel Bridge over the Brahmaputra in early 2016 as top officials of the Railways have pulled up their socks for early completion of the same. The department has resumed construction of the remaining six pillars of the bridge and is expected to complete the same within the scheduled period.
The bridge, when competed, will provide rail connectivity between Dibrugarh and Tinsukia of Upper Assam with Dhemaji district of North Assam and Siang districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
It may be mentioned here that the Rangiya-Murkongselek railway route came up in 1962 during the Chinese Aggression for transportation and mobilisation of security forces to Arunachal Pradesh. The Rangiya-Murkongselek broad gauge line has been proposed to be extended to Pasighat in Arunachal and further to Roing, Parsuramkund, Rupai, Anjaw and other places along the Indo-China border.
The BG conversion project was one of the two major rail projects in Assam announced by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during 2010.
