It is following CBE-Jaipur express slot till Chennai and Ganga-Kaveri slot from there. If Chennai gets a daily train to Varanasi then this can bypass Chennai. Till then this goes via Chennai to help pilgrims from that side.

I think number of pilgrims from Chennai to Varanasi is less. Chennai is the only major city that does not have even one convenient daily connection from Varanasi. This SF can be made daily to Chennai with extension to CBE on 1 day.
Opportunity! Opportunity! Golden opportunity! Our Dear & Honourable Prime Minister is visiting Coimbatore this afternoon. Whoever is having influence kindly try to request a train from Varanasi to Coimbatore (via Chennai).
Lovely! GREEN from my side! Varanasi had a nice dedicated to Chennai (Ganga Kaveri) which was callously extended to Chhapra. So, a new train is sorely needed. On some other days, the train can go to Bangalore City/Yesvantpur.
On historic occasion of innauguration of new train from Varanasi to New Delhi by Honourable Prime Ministerji, we request a new bi-weekly SF from Coimbatore to Varanasi (via Chennai).
