Soaring travel fares spoil Malayalis festive plans

Travel to Kerala this summer is proving difficult for Malayalis due to high ticket prices and heavy demand across various modes of transportation. Train waitlists are exceeding 100 for routes like Bengaluru-Kannur, Chennai-Mangaluru, and Mumbai-Kerala, with sleeper class waitlists reaching over 250 for some trains. Premium tatkal tickets are significantly more...

expensive, with fares tripled compared to last Onam. Bus fares have also increased considerably, with journeys between Kannur-Bengaluru and Bengaluru-Kozhikode costing significantly more than last year. Private bus companies are often suspending online booking systems and opting for manual booking, potentially leading to unfair fees. Airfares to Kannur airport are also higher than those at Kozhikode and Kochi airports, with a substantial increase from last Onam.

Kerala jaane wale Malayalis ko iss summer bahut pareshani ho rahi hai, kyunki private buses, airlines aur trains mein ticket prices bahut zyada hai aur bahut rush hai. Kerala jaane wali major trains mein waitlist 100 se bhi zyada ho gaya hai. Bengaluru mein rehne wale Malayalis sabse zyada pareshan hai....

10 April se 17 April ke beech, Yeshwantpur-Kannur Express (16527) mein sleeper class waitlist 258 se bhi zyada hai. Bengaluru-Kannur Express (16511) mein waitlist 149 aur Chennai-Mangaluru Mail (12601) mein sleeper class waitlist 146 hai. Mumbai se Kerala jaane walon ke liye, Netravadi Express mein sleeper class waitlist 99 hai. Delhi se chalne wali Mangala Express mein bhi aisa hi hai. Railway ne abhi tak Kerala mein koi festive special train announce nahin ki hai. Premium tatkal tickets pe bharosa karne walon ko bahut disappoint hona padega. Families ko normal fare se teeno guna zyada pay karna padega. Last Onam mein, Kannur-Bengaluru Express mein sleeper class ka fare Rs 370 se badh kar Rs 1,155 ho gaya tha. Issi tarah, third AC ticket ka fare Rs 1000 se badh kar Rs 3,350 ho gaya tha. Bus fares bhi bahut zyada badh gaye hain. Festive season mein Kannur-Bengaluru AC sleeper mein safar karne ke liye passengers ko lag bhaag Rs 2,200 kharch karna padega. Issi tarah, Bengaluru-Kozhikode ka safar Rs 900 se badh kar Rs 2,990 ho gaya hai. Bengaluru-Kochi journey ke liye Rs 1,999 ki jagah, ab Rs 4,000 tak pay karna padega. Sleeper buses mein berth ke hisab se alag se charge kiya jaata hai. Aise bhi hota hai ki private bus companies online booking systems ko band kar dete hain aur manual booking system pe chale jaate hain. Aisa karne ka matlab passengers pe unfair fees lagana hota hai. Kannur airport ke ticket fares bhi bahut mehnga hain, jiske wajah se bahut log dusre airports pe jaane ko majboor hote hain.
