The cleanliness of the AC coaches is also commendable, and it's good to know that the coaches remain clean throughout the overnight journey. The dry lavatories are an added convenience for passengers.
Since there is no pantry car on this train due to the overnight timing, it's advisable to carry food from Mumbai Central itself. As you mentioned, there are plenty of options available both at and outside the station.
Regarding ticket availability, Gujarat Mail is indeed a popular choice for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route for overnight journeys. Sleeper coaches tend to fill up quickly, so it's recommended to book in advance during the ARP period. Sometimes, even RAC tickets in Sleeper class don't get confirmed. However, 3AC tickets are generally available from one to four months in advance. It's important to note that during peak season and weekends, all classes tend to get booked up quickly, so it's advisable to be prompt while making bookings.
While there may not be many opportunities for railfanning due to the overnight timetable, the stretch between Borivali and Vadodara offers high-speed action and the chance to hear the sound of LHB coaches.
For your safety, RPF personnel are present in both AC and Sleeper coaches. However, it's always important to be responsible for your own safety.
Lastly, it's good to know that bedrolls are provided and can be found on the respective seats from the starting station. The bedsheet packaging is marked with WR for Western Railway.
Overall, Gujarat Mail seems to be a convenient overnight option for travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, ensuring a comfortable journey.
