I heard 2x25kV was tried at some stretches but later rolled back to simple 25kV for some reason. Its great if they're bringing it back again.

They are doing it for heavy haulage of freight trains. The locos can work both on 25Kv and 50Kv both according to the load. DFCCIL has ordered special locos from India and abroad.
