JAFARQUADRI 686 blog postsI traveled lot of time to and fro on this rout. in general class. One thing i want to complaint that, these dudes [chakkas/hijdaas] are making too much trouble to pay the money to them. they do not agree for one or two rupees, they ask for Rs. 10/-.as starting price for them. we have to travel in general class with extra Rs. 50/- to Rs. 100/-. whether this much amount some body will pay12 to 15 hours journey?

What you are saying is right. 3rd gender should be accepted as a normal thing in our society. The State also has do a lot regarding this. In North unlike South people have some superstitious belief regarding them so they capitalize on it. In south they don't bother even if you don't give them money. I think gone are the days when they used to lift dress to embarrass you. I don't see them happening much anymore. Once I talked to a eunuch for about 30 mins. She told me 90% of the eunuchs around Bangalore are guys. Actually they are cross-dressers not transgenders. Again it is State's responsibility to provide them with some kind of job so they can survive instead of begging and harassing people.
The state is not able to take good care of the 2 main genders, so the 3rd one will have to wait.

Poverty is one main reason.Else I dont see the need for cross dressing. But unfortunately the subject of eunuchs comes last on any govt's list. Infact its a non issue to many govts. :-(

In Tamil Nadu they have taken a good initiative by giving them jobs. Some of them are even contesting in the coming elections. In Koovagam(TN) the world's biggest transgender festival is held every year.

The some good new sir. The Supreme court just minutes ago has delivered a land mark judgement declaring that eunuchs are now part of the society and has ordered the government to create job opportunities and educational facilities to them. They will now be treated as economically and socially backward class so that they get all the benefits reserved for such categories. I am not a fan of these reservations and quotas and all but I fully the support such kind of reservations.Good use of the idea of reservation.
