(Just for Curiosity):
hundreds of passengers are booking ticket for same train through irctc or PRS at the same time (especially during Tatkal) but never heard of a CNF berth allotted to two passengers ? How does this happen? I mean how does the berth allocation system work that no berth is allotted to two persons? Anyone?

Its a centralized server of berth allotment..PRS will be given first preference as it has uninterrupted connectivity in allotment...while moving to entering the passenger data itself , the PRS staff will say whether req berth is available or not - but even though in irctc , if u have avail during typing dats , by confirming it can go to WL as PRS entry is fasttt..all the requests will be in queue for particular train berth allottment irrespective of PRS or irctc and it uses First in First out concept in allotting berth's...
u mean single berth to 2 different person , since Rilawy prs Is always in conenction to PRS server , it in in ques first , where as IRCTC , it goes in to queueand once payemnt transaction is completed , Berth allotment comes out , if no of berth is less , PRS booking of berth happens faster
