Located just about 6 kms from Kumbakonam, this Town is famous for the Airavateeshwara Temple, a Temple that has been considered by UNESCO World Heritage Sites and well preserved. More than the religious aspect, its the architectural aspects of the temple that is the main attraction. The temple is shaped like a Chariot with wheels carved out of stones and is a major attraction for anyone even if they are not interested in visiting a religious place. Guides are available here who explain each and every aspect. this temple dates back to the period of cholas and are close to 1000 years old may be more.
Yes- ASI taken over this temple- well maintained- and is famous for its architecture spendour
