Charging of cellphones / laptops between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. is prohibited on this train. The charging points are disabled from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., if you request the coach attendant, he may enable the points from 6 a.m. (as a big favour)!! Please charge your cell phones / laptops accordingly. Is it a rule, that devices cannot be charged in higher classes of travel at night? I faced this peculiar scenario in 2AC, and the TTE was quite rude when I questioned him about the same.

two or three months ago I read in newspaper that IR is going to stop providing the facility of Charging points between 10pm to 6am as precautionary measure to prevent fire. (Sorry, I don't have the news clip). Don't know what logic IR uses? removing curtains in 3AC, no charging during night time.....
I was shocked... its quite appalling actually. People travel in higher classes to avail certain creature comforts, the least among them being availability of a charging point. My phone was stone dead (its a 4-year old nokia!!), and I wasn't allowed to recharge it. The coach attendant in H1 happened to be a nice guy, who enabled the charging points at Tumkur at 6 a.m. The charging point for entire AC coaches are handled at H1 coach. Its quite a funny 'rule'..
The same peculiarity was noted while returning by 16589-Rani Chennamma, but this time, I'd charged my phone fully [once bitten, twice shy!!].. All in all, not a convincing rule

Can anyone tell me how to post a link of a news article on IRI?
Panel for switching off mobile charge points in trains from 10 pm to 6 am
