This Town, located about 35 kms from Tiruvannamalai, belongs to the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu. This temple is famous for the Ulagalantha perumaal temple i.e the Lord who measured the Universe
In Vaamana avathar, after requesting King Mahabali for 3 feet of land, the Lord who comes as a dwarf, measures the Land and the sky with the 2 feet and asks where He can keep his third. Mahabali, understanding the power of Lord, gives his head nd Lord pushes him down to Nether World. In Thirukkovilur, the Lord can be seen raising his leg for measurement of the universe.
