The first railway line in Madras Presidency was the product of innumerable letters and lots of lobbying. The first railway service was started between RPM and WJR on 1st July 1856. Sadly, SR wants to demolish the heritage buildings of RPM station for the construction of Chennai's new terminal.

Yes. People want RPM to be a terminal. For that certain heritage buildings have to be demolished. But the problem is that they are under the city's list of heritage sites and the CMDA (Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority) is not allowing SR to go forward with it. This the condition here.
