Unfortunately i always have to go to this station as the Secunderabad Duronto arrives/departs from this station.
Some of the tips for first timers visiting this station:
1) It is one of the worst railway stations on the Indian Railways.
2) Precisely, LTT is not connected to Mumbai Suburban train services directly.
Tilak
...
Nagar is the closest suburban station which is at the northern end of the station.
There is a path connecting LTT to Tilak Nagar by which it takes 4 to 5 mins to reach by walking.
3) Never be fleeced by the Rickshaw/Taxi Drivers who would be coming on the platforms offering you cheap rides to your destination.
They charge triple to quadruple amounts.
4) The only good thing about this station is that it has a prepaid taxi stand setup by the government.
Please make sure that you get to the prepaid stand as quickly as possible, because the queue gets very longer on the arrival of a train.
If you need any help regarding travel, ask the Traffic Police who would be near the station.
5) Always keep an eye on your luggage as this station is prone to theft.
6) The other suburban stations in the proximity are Vidyavihar and Kurla.
It takes approximately half an hour to reach Vidyavihar by walk.
7) After 8 pm, drop the option of going to Tilak Nagar Station as the roads leading to the station gets deserted.
8) Most of the trains wait for platform clearance near Vidyavihar Staion.
Please do not alight there as there is no platform and it is really dangerous.
It would be really foolish to do so.
Avoid this station if you can.
Instead, board/align at Thane station, if your train has a scheduled halt there as most trains from LTT do.
The above tips are purely based my experience.
Have a safe journey.

Then there is no alternative sir.
That's a problem you are ought to face in Mumbai when you are using rickshaw or taxi.
You may book a meru or some other radio cabs but the cost would go up.

The taxis and rickshaw's in mumbai are better compared to other cities, the problem is only the airport taxi and railway station taxi, they are the ones who really disturb the passengers, i had commuted in mumbai for around 25 years in taxi, i did not face any problems except as mentioned the railway station and the airport guys
