I need to go to Ghatkopar. If I catch Pune-Mumbai Intercity and book ticket till Dadar, can I deboard at Thane and catch a local to Ghatkopar with the express ticket (Pune - DR)? Also how is the rush during 8:30PM from Thane to Ghatkopar on a local train?

Yes you can do that. If you book your ticket till Dadar and deboard at TNA you are allowed to travel in EMU upto Dadar in Second Class. There won't be much rush
You are permitted to get down at Thane and travel with your PUNE-Dadar Ticket up to Ghatkopar by suburban local train. Please note you can do so from Thane to Matunga only (one station prior to Dadar up to which you are having Mail/Express train) by suburban local train.at 20.30 hrs there will not much rush in train. Please catch slow local at platform no. 4 at Thane Railway Station.

Thanks to all of you. This was very useful information. I have done the same on the western line (deboarding at BVI and travelling upto Malad in a local with an express ticket to BDTS) but was not certain on the central line.
I was skeptical on getting down at Dadar and board a local to Ghatkopar as I assume there would be a greater rush in locals from CSTM to TNA when compare to the reverse journey.
