NOSTALGIA
Circa 1960 when I was 10 years old, I undertook my first train journey unaccompanied by any adult, travelling from Howrah to Chennai. Since then, I have been an avid rail fan. What follows is an attempt to highlight in chronological order the sequence of introduction/abolition of various classes of accommodation in IR.
1956 IR had 5 classes, AC, Ist Class, 2nd Class, Inter Class and 3rd Class (with no sleeping accommodation)

Awesome report PK Sir... I think that the Non-AC 2-Tier Coaches should be re-introduced in their LHB Avtaar in SF Trains... Gee :-D
Mr PKV: I remember my father telling me that interclass was between 1st and second class or maybe my memory is letting me down :)
Your father was spot on Sudhir. Interclass was indeed intermediate between 1st and 2nd class. BTW a warm welcome back in IRI.
Thanks. I think the 2tier sleeper (non Ac) was there till 1973 or 1974. The lower berth was for sitting ( two in day and 3 in night) and upper berth (cushioned) for night sleeping. What do you say?
