If wish to travel from mumbai to delhi, then you have book well 1 month in advance specially in sleeper. Its always full for mumbai to delhi quota as along with NZM, meerut and SRE also come in same quota.
Take RLWL less than 40. Above it in sleeper , its very tough to confirm.
If you dont get tickets, then there is
...
three ways by which still you can travel from mumbai to delhi in this train:
1. Check BCT to JRC as its in GNWL ASR end to end quota, which majority of times remains vacant. If getting GNWL in SL till 60-70, take it. Confirmation has bright chances.
2. Check ST/BRC to NZM, sometimes this quota also remains vacant (personal experience) in SL, take it if don't wish to waste money. Reach ST by any earlier train and catch this.
3. Last option keep for premium tatkal. This is sure that you will get confirmed seat.
But during diwali and holi rush, don't wait and book 120 days arp. This train is a high demand train throughout 365 days but during diwali & holi, it gets filled up on the 1st day itself.

I dont know if it is feasible. If one has the budget one maybe able to buy reserved tickets, one for Mumbai-Surat (or BRC) and then ST (or BRC)-NDLS on the same train if available. I have done this sort of thing a few years ago when I travelled from Bhopal to Ahmedabad. I could not get a 2nd AC ticket from Bhopal to Ahmedabad. I then booked two tickets one from Bhopal to Ujjain and the second from Ujjain to Ahmedabad. It was more expensive, but reached Ahmedabad in comfort

In AC class, it may be feasible but in SL class its pretty tiresome.
Consider there are 10 SL coaches. And its pretty sure you will get BCT-ST/BRC different coach and ST/BRC - BCT different coach. You have to change over from 1 coach to another coach in the late night time. Your sleep gonna wasted and other passengers sleep also.
Instead opt for earlier train to reach ST or BRC, take a small break at ST/BRC and then board it.

Ok. I did not realise it depends on the time table of the trains. My idea is more feasible and enjoyable if the train transfer is in daylight hours. Thanks

The member who have given red flag, 1st of all this tip is strictly about Non AC class travel. And regarding GNWL 30-40, i think if you get RAC in end, still you can travel very well in this train. There is huge difference between WL ticket and RAC ticket.
Thanks.
