Punctuality has been drastically reduced of this train now-a-days. It is stopped several times in between Balasore-Bhubaneshwar, Visakhapattanam-Vijaywada stretch (obvious due to several unnecessary halts). Undergoes good run in Brahmapur-Visakhapattanam & Vijaywada-Chennai stretch.
From Howrah to Bhubaneswar, I have never seen Coromandal getting lesser priority in my life. This runs at a Premium Slot i.e Puri Shatabdi-MAS Coromandal. These two run back to back. And always maintains a Perfect run between HWH-VSKP.
But yes, it gets slow run between VSKP-BZA due to slack timings. It always arrives Eluru delayed, but arrives BZA nearly ontime.

What you said about priority is absolutely true. But several times you can found it reaching VSKP late (sometimes heavy delayed).
Just see the travel time from KUR to VSKP. Its to aggressive and slight delays are expected to happen, like 1-1:30hrs which is easily covered between EE-BZA slack.
Its due to over congestion, earlier it used to reach VSKP atleast 20-30 mins earlier.
Irrespective of Over-congestion, Coromandal gets the top-most priority in KGP-VZM stretch. And if we check the arrival history at VSKP, regularly its arriving by 30 minutes delays barring 1-2 instance of 1hr or more hours delays.
