Bihar received lots of new trains when the railway min was from the region. Subsequently when Mamata Banerjee was the rail minister, yet again they continued to get benefit of trains going from Eastern/North eastern states which were going to Delhi. So probably in the last decade or so ,I feel this is probably one of the few 1-2 states to have got maximum trains.
Unfortunately, the infrastructure was never improved, extra lines were not added & I guess this could have resulted in the current state

In my opinion, There is a way to get out of this problem specially in Kanpur. Kanpur is one of the major cities and situated on Delhi-Howrah and Lucknow-Mumbai route and the train traffic is increasing day by day making the train delayed by 1-2 hours waiting on the outer of the station to get the chance to be placed on platform. The main problem is, Kanpur has always been ignored by the politicians of our country and the development here is at snail pace. There is a need of New Railway Terminal in Kanpur but no body cares for benefit of Kanpur. There is an Old Cawnpore Railway Station situated on the New Delhi - Howrah Route and if this Station develops as a terminal station then most of the problem will solved in Kanpur Zone. the load of Kanpur Central will also decrease and people will also get benefited....

The Station is also situated near Kanpur ISBT (Major Salman Khan Bus Stand aka Jhakarkati Bus Stand) so it is an added benefit.
Beside This, 2 more line have to be build to flow the traffic smoothly, two for Slow Trains and two for Super fast Trains.

NDLS-HWH had been the no.1 trunk line of India. It carries high volumes of passengers (esp NDLS-MGS) as well as heavy freight (esp MGS-HWH). IR developed it for high speed.
This route has witnessed introduction of a large number of new trains as it serves heavily populated areas and most of the RMs in last 2 decades hailed from the states served by this route.
Most of the trains say from Delhi to Orissa (BBS) run through this fast route rather than slower and partly single line alternate route via Bina-Katni-BSP-SBP. In

fact IR should study which route they want to develop for travel between particular end destinations and develop accordingly.
Although, many patches of third line has been commissioned on this line, but real respite shall come when the DFC is commissioned and the SF trains shall run with avg speed of 75kmph and the Rajdhanis at almost 100kmph.
