to avoid noice/sparks they use back one and not on the top of pilots/drivers
even in rainy season it is advisible to use the back one only .
only when in loop lines or ends they change to reach to main live wires
if any body observes the live wires are not straight and in zig zag ,where as it appears to us as
...
if the panta is moving in zig zag motion.due to track position etc some sparks and smell of electric comes

NO, climate does Not play a role. It is based on the principles I have outlined above previously. The front panto will be used only because they are going thru a dead zone, and the LP needs (sometimes only) to go through and pull the rake. This is seen mostly in suburban sections, not on mainlines.....
Good wishes\

This must be MEMUs Mainline Electrical Multiple Units only. Not on Express or Passenger trains with single engine, unless there is an fault in the Loco where one of the pantos is giving trouble.
Good wishes

In AC traction line. There is dead zone of OHE after some kilometers for phase changing purpose. Phase changing require for balancing of 3 phase circuit. So, in dead zone LP's are specially instructed for no breaking & take there pentograph down. Now when OHE comes in circuit LP give command to pentograph and normally first pentograph comes in action first. You can feel dead zone in some passenger trains.
