Despite being a divisional HQ from the past 5 decades and being a major junction, Guntakal has not seen any major development unlike Nandyal, Dhone and Nanded, Hubli and Manmad.
It all started with the laying of Kallur - Gooty line which has snatched away the importance of Guntakal junction. The railway authorities for some reason have laid this line without laying a parallel BG line between Guntakal - Kallur when the Guntakal - Bangalore gauge conversion was taken up. To retain the MG connection between Tirupati - Secunderabad, this line was left without conversion.

unless new inter city/overnight express trains introduced from gtl to all directions upto 300 km on par with other jn/div. there won't be any significant development for this junction/division in future i think. may be state gov. need to develop gtl town on par with other big towns in rayalaseema to support this and get the required patronage/demand.
As mentioned in the other reply, GTL needs some intercity style trains in all directions. Though it is a major railway junction, the town itself is not really a big town unlike Vijayawada, Hubli which are the second largest cities in their respective states and have considerable passenger traffic. There isn't much originating traffic for long distance trains here. The demand is chiefly for short-distance intra-state trians, which GTL is definitely lacking in. Some development is required in this region to generate the necessary traffic. Even then, It is better to start trains from DMM/TPTY as GTL does not have enough originating traffic.

True that it is the most neglected of all divisional HQs but still gets a lot of funding thanks to SCR. If you notice - barring DMM-PAK line, rest of GTL's lines are electrified or in progress. Looking at Karnataka, that's many times better.

KSK should have been thru TK-ASK-CTA-BAY-GTL-RC-SC route but due to politics of 2004 elections, it runs in the shortest distance than for the state that it was allocated. If it had been then, GTL would have benefited.
