Will the bus lobby let this become a reality? I have serious doubts.
Well thats the ONLY tough nut to crack. Punjab people pays heavy price for its politics. The most underdeveloped area (punjab) in terms of railways.
Due to bus lobby It took 20+ yrs for Railways to 'announce' a mere 30 kms of railway line between Rajpura & Chandigarh to connect punjab's capital with the popular towns like Patiala, Dhuri, Bathinda and further Rajasthan.
Still nothing's happening after announcement of this 30 kms rail line, no ground work happening as of now (as per my knowledge).
