Russian Rly experts studied the feasibility of running trains at 200kmph on NGP-SC route and gave following recommendations:

(6) detailed study/ strengthening of culverts & bridges
(7) It is also a known fact thet rolling stock (LHB coaches & WDP4,WAP5 locos) too need modification for enabling 200kmph speed.

summing up (1)-(7) above, it is clear that virtually every component of Rly track and Machiney need change, the cost shall be extremely high. The track under question is already a super saturated track and even a thought of closing it down for upgradation (esp. point no 2 & 5) is scary.

For 200kmph, the track has to be dedicated to passenger traffic only, i.e. there should be a DFC to take care of freight trains, which currently are the bread & butter of IR.

So nothing significant is going to happen in the direction of 200kmph and the reports are bound to gather dust. It would be a great achievement for IR if 160kmph operating speed is achieved throughout the GQ & Diagonals (10000 RKMs) in next 5 years through indigenous means.
