Dakshineswar is a famous place and people all over from India come to visit the Kali temple. Also, the station is well connected. After you get down, you will find buses to almost all parts of Kolkata including Saltlake, DumDum, MG Road, Ultadanga etc. Buses upto Barasat can also be boarded. Along with that, there are autos which will take you to Belurmath, BallyHalt, Bally Ghat etc. You can hire the auto also but do bargain the fare as they sometimes charge more. Also, jetty service can be availed from Dakshineswar ghat which is adjacent to the Kali Temple. They will transport you to Belur ghat which again is adjacent to BelurMath, another famous tourist destination.
In 2010, when i went to kolkata for appearing in BEL exam, we travelled via metro to shyam bazaar and then to dakshineshwar. Pedas were good in taste and taken for prasad. Then we took boat to belur math(20rs and 20 minutes time)to visit ramkrishna mission and vivekanand museum there. Great trip it was
Now you can go till Noapara by metro. From there, Dakshineswar is ever so nearer.
Yes, the pedas of Dakshineswar are really tasty. Plus the boat ride is amazing as well(considering you do take the boat during early morning or evening)
Yes, i took it the time of sunset aroung 5pm. It was beautiful view and there was a railway bridge nearby as I recall
5pm is an ideal time. Setting sun and breeze hitting your face
