FC is generally replaced with 3A . Trains like West coast, Mangalore Mail , Alappuzha , Trivandrum Superfast, Blue Mountain, Kanyakumari, Rockfort, Pandian had the same replacement.
The absence of 2A is really a puzzling one , the reasons are best known to SWR.

Because politicians used this train to travel back to their N.KA constituencies. This was the sole connectivity. Convenient timings too. So 1st AC for them. Remember when accident occurred few years ago, one of them died - he was in 1st AC I think.
Also a pointer - DMM tri-weekly to capital BZA, got AC class when introduced, much before any UR. Today it seems it has got.

Yes, he was an MLC who died in 1A accident when a lorry hit the coach at some level crossing. But if at all 2A was present many would have got benefitted. Too few trains have a full 1A coach. In SWR, only RC & Nanded exp have it.
RC to ferry officials to HQ and back. This like I said for politicians.
