It's a mixed bag. P5 requires more rigorous maintenance for it's gear box as that is the component most prone to failure. On perfect track conditions, this would not be a big issue, but since our track conditions are less than perfect, the 3-stage gear box requires rigorous maintenance. On the other hand, because the motors are bogie-suspended in the P5, they would require less rigorous maintenance than the traction motors in other locos. Also, other than the gear box, all other components will have lesser wear-and-tear for a P5 compared to a P7.
