SBC-GTL is not doubled and so is WADI-PUNE.. CSTM-SBC in 14 hours is a dream.. Totally not possible
Once Tumakuru-Sira-Davangere line is constructed, both routes will be of same distance from SBC to CSTM. But IR will take decades to complete it.
Also another line Dharwad-Kitturu-Belagavi should come up (still in survey stage) which will drastically reduce distance.

Mumbai-Bangalore is a hot bus route as well. From what I heard, due to the influence of bus mafia, Mumbai-Chennai and Mumbai-Bangalore routes were neglected for decades.
This is one of the multiple facets of corruption in IR, due to which the most cost efficient, environment friendly and high capacity rail transport is continuously losing its market share to costly & polluting road/air transport.
