Thanks for tagging! :)
Yes, there were mostly passenger trains on this route back then. One of them connected to a passenger service leaving from Londa in the afternoon and arriving at Hubli in the evening and progressing further to Guntakal. The Pune-Belgaum route was also called the Western Deccan route.
Bangalore - The first step was in 1886 when the Hubli-Harihar section was opened. Again, a multitude of slip trains used to connect to the Vasco ( then Mormugao) - GTL

main line. In 1889, the Harihar-Bangalore section was opened and a through mail between Bangalore-Poona was started. This was one of the most prestigious trains for the Southern Mahratta railway and the present day MAS-SBC intercity ( not Lalbagh, the other one) was rescheduled to connect to the Poona mail at Bangalore in the late 1890's.
There were many proposals to extend the mail to Mysore and on-wards, and by some accounts, by 1900, the Bangalore-Poona mail was extended and running as a daily mail train between Poona-Nanajangud (utilizing 8 rakes, with 7 coaches each). Don't know where this train is today. :)

Thanks. You should write a book with this knowledge and adapt it to suit modern railfans. You know - a chapter on Jaunpur, a chapter on GKP, a chapter on sleep killer .... surely it will be a best seller :)

Yes initially there was line between Hubli(then) and Goa passing Londa and they made junction from Londa towards Belgaum(then) and later on continued till Miraj to join Kolhapur - Poona MG line. There was Goa - Mumbai MG express via Bgm, Mrj with changeover in Poona to BG train, total travel time was near to 24 hrs. Original Poona - Bangalore(then) MG express later on converted as Miraj - Bangalore MG Mahalaxmi Express(24 hrs) and current day Rani Chennamma express is same, along with this there was Miraj - Mangalore(then) Fast passenger via Ubl, Ask, Has (more than 24 hrs).
