Suri~ 7920 blog postsIf this tentative Timetable gets regularized, then i would say Southern Railway Again Totally ruined this train. It can leave CAN by 1700hrs and can arrive MAQ by 1930hrs. Halt time at MAQ can be reduced thus travel time also. CAN to MAJN distance of 132km double electric line with empty slot , there is no need of so much slacked and tiring schedule.
And in return, 16511 is getting more pathetic schedule between MAQ-CAN , with two trains 16860 and 16605 with double amount of halts overtaking it.

I think SR was intially not in agreement to the arrival time at MAQ, but they have done it now. As a counter probably SWR did the same by changing terminals of 22607 & 12683 to BAND. !!!!
You are right, better get down at MAQ and opt for Egmore or Ernad. It is similar to people travelling in 13351 to TCR/ERS who get down at PGT, take another ticket and then board SBC-ERS intercity and reach destination almost 1.5 hours ahead

If it has to be that way then they'll have to do a lot of shunting at SBC end which I don't think they will. So for four days a week, Karwar portion will be at the back while arriving at MAQ mostly. And since 16511 has enough slack from MAQ to CAN, it won't make any difference if it departs even 90 minutes behind schedule.
SBC Already handles one such type of Rake Shunting around activity Ex: Rani Chenamma & its Slip. Same can be followed for this one. Rules needed to be followed is Shunt one Portion first & then Second instead of whole at once. Only thing that change i suppose is Reverse CC (Like 12133/34 case) on via YPR days. Just a Guess, I may be wrong also....
With change in TT. Karwar Portion now departs early/earlier than Kannur Portion.at MAQ. No Shunting & all required.. Also Advancement of Timings from SBHR to MAQ. & Somewhat little early arrivals till BTJL.
Sadly, it will trail 56640 all the way and thus run slower than the passenger.
