BENGALURU-MYSURU DOUBLE LINE (138.3 KM) COMMISSIONED FOR TRAFFIC
The pending 1.7 KM stretch of doubling between Bengaluru-Mysuru line at Srirangapatna has been commissioned for traffic today. With commissioning and completion of this stretch of 1.7 Km. at Sriranagapatna, the entire Bengaluru-Mysuru (138.3 km) Doubling Project now stands fully completed and commissioned (excluding electrification between Yeliyur-Mysuru (39 Km), which is also nearing completion) which will reduce the travelling time between Bengaluru and Mysuru.

The doubling of Bengaluru- Mysuru was sanctioned in 3 stages.
Stage-I: (Bengaluru-Kengeri – 12.3 Km) was completed & commissioned in Feburary, 2007 at a cost of Rs. 39.59 Crore.
Stage-II: (Kengeri-Ramanagaram – 32.00 km) was completed and commissioned in October, 2008 at a cost of Rs. 75.98 Crore.
Stage-III: Ramanagaram-Mysuru Doubling with Electrification from Kengeri to Mysuru at an anticipated cost of Rs.875 Crore. was taken up on cost sharing basis with Government of Karnataka. Doubling in Ramanagaram-Mysuru (94.00 km) was completed and commissioned in October, 2015 except for a small stretch of 1.7 km at Srirangapatna.
This 1.7 Km stretch at Srirangapatna was having Tippu Sultan’s Armoury, an Archeological protected structure (monument). As this historic structure was exactly in the Doubling alignment, it was required to be translocated to a new location. The shifting of Tippu’s Armoury to the new location, a unique work done for the first time in India, was completed in March 2017 with help of M/s. Wolfe House Building Movers, USA, a pioneer in this field.
In addition three Cauvery tributaries namely Cauvery North, Cauvery South & Paschimavahini were all located at the approaches of Sriranagapatna Station. New bridges were constructed across these three rivers for accommodating 2 new tracks.
After completion of shifting of Tippu’s Armoury to a new location, the earthwork, platform work and track linking works at this stretch of 1.7 Km. was taken up and completed in the month of Sept., 2017 along with the balance work of three bridges. After statutory inspection by Commissioner of Railway Safety on 06.11.2017, followed by authorization to introduce the passenger trains services on this newly laid track, this stretch was also commissioned for traffic on 21.11.2017. ..
