I am now on to some serious research work on IR's train services and propose to present in small daily doses, piecemeal statistical information for the benefit of all railfans and members of this wonderful site. By way of a SHUBHARAMBH, what I have just unearthed is that the number of M/E services operated by IR stands at a STAGGERING 1126 pairs as per TAAG 2011-2012, subject to the following clarifications:
a) Percentage error may be considered at a maximum of 2.5% (+ or - 28 pairs)
b) Includes all types of M/E

trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi, Vivek, Rajya Rani, Garib Rath, Inter City, Sampark Kranti, Duronto, SF and ordinary M/E trains.
c) Includes trains plying on BG, MG,NG and Hill Station sections
d) Includes trains announced in the Railway Budget for 2011-2012 which are yet to be introduced.
e) Includes slip trains too. For instance 12925 Bandra-Amritsar Paschim Express and 22925 Bandra-Kalka Paschim Express are counted as 2 SEPARATE TRAINS.
f) However, since we are talking of train pairs, 12925 Bandra-Amritsar Paschim Express and 12926 Amritsar-Bandra Paschim Express are counted as ONE TRAIN.
