Railway stations have recently been reclassified taking annual foot fall also into account in addition to earlier parameter of annual revenue. New top class NSG-1 (above 500 Cr revenue or over 2 crore footfalls per annum) is likely to be much tougher to achieve than earlier top class A1 (above 60 Cr. Revenue) for the rly stations on IR network.

It is expected that, as against 75 A1 stations in old classification, there may be only about 30 NSG-1 class stations on IR network.

Old top class (A1) stations which shall retain new top class (NSG1) are likely to be HWH, CSTM, Thane, Dadar, Borivali, Kalyan, Andheri, Chennai Central, Pune, Sealdah, NewDelhi, Chennai Egmore, Vijaywada, Secunderabad, Banglore City, Surat, Patna, Delhi Jn, Bhopal, Gwalior, Ahmedabad, Hazrat Nizamuddin etc.
Anand Vihar Terminal is expected to join NSG1 class with a big annual growth in revenue, Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus may lie near the boundary between NSG-1 & NSG-2

Earlier level-2 (A class) stations which may achieve level-1 (NSG-1) status in new classification by virtue of their high footfall are likely to be Tambaram, Panvel, Barddhman, Arakkonam, Chengalpattu etc. Stations like Raipur, Bandel, Jhansi etc may just achieve or miss the top class by whisker.
