How does a driver knows when to apply brakes such that the train will stop exactly around the station?

The LP can know the platform by knowing the signal at the home signal post. 1 Km away from the home signal there is another signal post which makes the LP know what is in home signal. The home signal display indicates to which platform the signal is made cleared for. When the last coach enters the platform, The gaurd sends msge to loco pilot to stop...
