Well, let us get a peek into my home station....
.
LAKE GARDENS
.
A relatively important station situated on the Sealdah to Budge Budge Section of Sealdah South Suburban Section (rush is there during

office time atleast).
.
The station has 2 platforms. Trains towards Sealdah arrive on PF 1 and trains towards Budge Budge arrive on PF 2.
.
The ticket counter is situated North of the railway tracks, after crossing the tracks from Lake Gardens Side.
.
There used to be a level crossing just before entering the station from Sealdah side till few years back, which was closed due to excess traffic. A new flyover has taken its place since then, but people still cross the tracks daily from under the railway gate, some with bicycles, as this is the shortcut.
.
This is also the railway station from where the single track section begins till New Alipur railway station, so often trains from Sealdah side wait after their arrival for crossing with Budge Budge side train (I used to see one of them daily at around 3:30 pm while returning from school during childhood days). Also, the next railway station Tollygunge can be seen from here, as the distance is not even a kilometer.
.
After exiting the station towards Sealdah side, you may go left or right, by crossing the tracks:
1. To the LEFT is the majestic and refreshing Dhakuria Lake and adjacent Rabindra Sarovar Stadium. This is a popular spot for walking and exercising amongst local residents.
2. To the RIGHT, one can go through the locality of Lake Gardens and onto the main road that is Prince Anwar Shah Road. There is also a narrow lane which goes parallel to the tracks which goes uptill the next station on the route (Tollygunge) and also connects to the main road that is S.P. Mukherjee Road and the Rabindra Sarover Metro Station through the locality of Charu Market, adjacent to Lake Gardens.
.
Rickshaws are available for both the journeys.

The level crossing is a good place for railfanning, as the tracks are far apart due to island platform system (two platforms in a single island with two tracks on either side).
.
I did not mention about the FOB present here because it is not at all used and also not required. The freight traffic in this route is as it is very low, so no use of providing the FOB. People easily cross the tracks. Plus, suburban trains are also not as frequent as say the Sealdah to Sonarpur section.
