As the stench is concerned ye bhi logo ki galti hai ki paani nahi daalte.. not all toilet stink, only those do which are not cared properly. Ye alag baat hai ki paani khatm ho gaya yaa clean station par toilets ki cleaning nahi hui.
If not bio toilet then some human would have to carry human waste which is one of most pathetic jobs in world.. I never feel good that someone is carrying my waste. I would rather have Bio toilet... But Indians must improve and never block them.. Hence Blame is on Indian people not the toilet system.
The other main issue with the bio toilets is that it always cannot be cleaned and emptied in its destination especially in cases where layover period is low or else there is no proper cleaning facility/washing line or pit line.
This becomes a big issue for long distance trains. Even the OBHS staff cannot do much about it as there is a different method of removing the blockage which can only be done in a station having such facility. In some of the toilets, have seen the railways have put some kind of cross spring across the outlet which will prevent people from putting bottles etc, but of course will not help in preventing passengers from putting tissue papers, gutka packets etc...

I will come back on this , right now another hiccup with booking staff at katra
Bio toilets are a complete disaster. They simply don't need any reason to get choked. Even OBHS and Coaching depot officers admit that bio toilets are a pain their ass. Controlled discharge toilets which were previously used in LHB coaches are much better than this. Adding to the misery is the foul odour, bcoz of the ongoing anaerobic breakdown of they faecal matter, they stink like hell.
