Ohhh.. they are alot. I believe they should be reduced as now a days many new trains are introduced which connect all these trains stations.
However proper planning must be there to timing of train as we've seen many trains which should cover a distance in 4 hours takes more than 5 hours due to halt demands.. if speed of trains is increased like its now a days, even introducing new halt may help. but subject to trial basis initially.

In my view, Super Crawlers are also importantly needed as they cater the population of relatively small towns for long distance journey. Though they are slow, taking long time, but still they are important.

Either in future Railway's will Scrap them.
Super Crawlers will not stand permanently
they will be Upgraded by removal of Stoppages.
