Division won't solve anything. Aurangabad's problem is its location and lack of political representation.

For any train, the revenue from the train is divided between all the zones it passes through in the same proportion as the distance covered by the train in that zone. Typically 5% is reserved for the zone maintaining the rake and the remaining 95% is split according to the distance traveled. This does not depend on the number halts etc.
...

For example, consider a train running from VSKP to SC via BZA/GNT, belonging to ECoR. Assume the train has only 1 halt in SCR, at BZA. Even if this train run runs at 100% occupancy with all bookings from VSKP alone, ECoR will get only 8% of the total revenue, since the train will run only for 17kms in ECoR and almost 645km in SCR.

Because of this, zones typically do not start trains from stations at the zone boundary and leaving the zone almost immediately, unless the stations are for very large, major cities like MAS, SBC etc.

This is the one of main reasons behind stations like MAQ and GR not getting originating trains towards SBC.

Since Aurangabad is on the border of SCR, hardly 2 hrs from MMR, it is unlikely that SCR will start any originating trains from AWB towards MMR. If they have any originating trains, they will typically be towards NED. Now, they can start trains from AWB going via PAU, AK, but NED has more political mileage than AWB, so most weekly trains going via PAU-AK, start form NED.

Aurangabad can become div HQ but for CR and not for SCR. It can be done by transferring MMR-AWB section to CR. This will solve almost 80% problems in this section/region, be them revenue related, logistical, operational or railway employee related. My gut feeling tells that Aurangabad- Ahemadnagar and Aurangabad-Chalisgaon lines can be get sanctioned in coming future. So new Aurangabad devision can have following sections:
1. Manmad(excluding)-Aurangabad( excluding or CR part of stn)
2. Manmad-puntamba-Shirdi
3.

Aurangabad-Ahemadnagar(excluding)
4. Ahemadnagar-Beed-Parli
5. Aurangabad-Chalisgaon-Dhule-Nardana
Aurangabad should be the point of zonal interchange between CR and SCR with Aurangabad in SCR only.
or one more solution is, southern half of Aurangabad station can be transferred to CR for construction of new PFs and other facilities. This it will be win-win for both CR and SCR

It will still be the same problem even if there is a transfer to CR and if there is a new division formed. Aurangabad is still at the boundary of a zone, so originating traffic heading out of the zone will be very unlikely.

At the most, it might create room for extension of some Bombay-Manmad train to AWB, but originating trains from AWB, going towards Bhusaval via MMR will still be unlikely. They will get extended to NED to cover as many places as possible with a single train. In

other words, if they need to run one train to AWB and one train to NED from MMR, they are more likely to run both till NED to cover as many places as possible with the existing trains. Unfortunately, that is how IR typically handles its operations.

Construction of AWB-Ahmednagar and AWB-Chalisgaon will pave the the way for more passing trains, but originating traffic will again be unlikely. If both routes are constructed, then they'll mostly use them for trains coming from Pune or some North bound trains from KOP/SBC.

That is not to say that AWB can never have originating trains. As I mentioned earlier, it can be developed as a terminal for North and East bound trains, with the trains taking the PAU-AK route or the Nanded-Warora route. Trains like NED-SRC and PAU-PNBE can be extended to Aurangabad. This just needs some political pressure.

With the right political support, AWB can be developed as the terminal for East, South and some North bound trains, while NED can continue as the terminal for West and some North bound trains. That way, the whole NED-AWB section is utilized to the maximum and gets connectivity to all parts of the country.

In the 2003 Railway Budget, the Railway Minister announced in parliament the establishment of a Railway Division with Nizamabad as its Center. But due to pressure from Maharastra leaders, the Nizamabad Railway Division was shifted to Nanded.😓😓😓

Although the division moved, Nizamabad was assured that Gangmen Coach Factory would be
Set up in Nizamabad without any injustice.

But unfortunately not many people know this.😥😥😥
