It's political. Nothing else. They oppose the rail line wherever there is different government in centre and state and approve where there is same government in both places.
Similar Forest issue can be seen in making Marwar- Mavli rail line which will pass through forest area but it's long pending demand of people of the region to make BG which will connect not only those 2 places but also Jodhpur/ Bikaner/ Jaisalmer / Barmer to Udaipur and further to Ratlam and Indore via a shorter route.

dense forest or wildlife Sanctuary and IR has done it at other places too, like that in Achanakmar wildlife Sanctuary, connecting Anuppur to Bilaspur.

* These activists have almost no concern towards the scarce funds available with IR as well as with the nation.
* many of such persons are associated with NGOs which survive and thrive on the funds given mostly be Govt which again is hard earned taxpayer's money. Their contribution to economy/ national GDP should always be enquired into. There is little sense in opposing every thing and hog media lime light

Though agree to the point to some extent, all the doubts raised by activists are not baseless.
People here are arguing that when MG trains passed through all the years no one opposed and why suddenly people are opposing the GC. This is totally baseless and they should read the history of this agitation. There has been continuous opposition for the proposed alignment which was overlooked by various central govts over the time. This doesn't mean that their stand was right. Leave along the alignment even the human settlement there in those regions is illegal and people should be vacated and shifted to other regions.

there is difference in bg traffic and BG traffic.
1. Just 4-5 pair of 5-6 coacher pax trains passed daily on that section with nominal freight. Will railways have just that much traffic after GC also
2. Mps was as low as 30 km in that section. kya GC ke baad bhi utne hi mps se chalate
3. kya freights chalne ka koi plan nahi tha.gc ke baad.?
70 years after independence elephants routinely dying in haridwar - dehradun and siliguri - new mal section. So people doubt over IR's statements saying they would build pass overs/fly overs in fixed distances over the tracks to protect wild life.
