For Bangalore to Chennai, train would continue to be the ideal choice. Get in at SBC/ YPR/ BNC/ KJM and in next 5-6 hours, you can get down at Chennai Central station. By air means 2 hours to airport plus one hour waiting time (minimum) plus one hour journey to Chennai and then another one hour to city by metro.
Just take AC chair car ticket and relax.

Is there a space somewhere around pf 1 or 7 where airport train can be stationed. It don't have to be big (6-7 coach). If it can be cleared out then I think airport shuttle can be managed from SBC.
