ID proof is required for all e tickets (Normal and tatkal) and tatkal tickets (counter and i tickets). But getting i tickets may not be possible for tatkal tickets as the minimum time required for receiving the ticket through courier may not be available except on the first day that too for certain metropolitan areas.
So any body without id proof can book i tickets and travel. The reply by crack mech is absurd and has to be removed.

In that case, tatkal i tickets also does not need any id proof. For all purposes the i tickets are on par with counter tickets.

i ticketss are on par with counter tickets for all practical purpose, they do not need any id proof generally. All ticets are not transferable. During raids for detecting illegal travel on third party tickets it may help if passengers have some id proof to prove that the tickets were booked for them only. Similarly senior citizens have to carry some proof to prove their age.

Valid ID proof (in original) is required for e-tickets only
