An image of the now defunct train from the now defunct rail line, Patna.

Yes, it was one of the oldest lines in existence in India from over a century ago. Used for transporting stuff from Digha to Patna. Was closed and revived in sixties by Jagjivan Ram and then closed again a decade later[Goods train ran upto the nineties]. Laloo revived it again in 2004 in hopes that it will decongest the cities road[ironical since it aided in creating congestion on Bailey Road]. Due to politics, the rail route was not given to state govt. till recently. Railways was running loss making trains on this route purely so that it's land can't be encroached upon. Towards it's end, platforms were non existent, ticket counters shut for years and speed decreased to a crawl. One had to wade through muck and dirt to reach civilization from these 'stations'. Few passengers, if any, used it during the end of it's lifetime.
These lines have been uprooted now and roads built in it's place, right? Also, has construction for Patna Metro started yet?
