What is the best option to travel to Kayamkulam from Mumbai in December and return in Jan?

LTT KCVL SF EXP (22113) looks best bet for me you can board from THANE if at 5:17 PM and reach KYJ next day late evening around 8 PM. This is the fastest option.

For Return on 02/01 from KYJ to Mumbai, same Kochuveli- Mumbai LTT (KCVL LTT EXP (22114) is good for early arrival around 7:30 AM next day at Thane but Departure from KYJ is odd time at 02:32 AM else you can opt for Netravati with Departure from KYJ at 11:10 AM and reaches Thane at around 4 PM...
