coupling photo of ndls-trivandrum rajdhani at sindhudurg station, awaiting crossing by trivandrum-ndls rajdhani. i was in mandovi express waiting for these 2 crossings.
why there are 6 coupling tubes in rajdhani (as seen in photo) & just 2 in regular express trains?

I think this article can somewat help us
"The automatic center buffer coupler of AAR tight lock type at the coach end has a support frame which is providing an anti-climbing protection. The coupler can be opened from the side by a lever. The design allows the use of screw coupler instead of center buffer coupler. Therefore a fixing plate for buffers is also provided. The inter-vehicle coupler for the supply of the 750 V from the generator car is located below the under-frame. Due to the moving situation 4 brake hoses are to be used at the coach end which are brought to two hoses behind the couple"

Just a guess... probably 3 for each side related to brakes, and possible fail safe/redundant backups? I've also noticed such coupling between electric/diesel locos in tandem. My understanding of those is to do with control of engines symmetrically from front engine. I would be v. happy for additional info on this.. Thanks for the post
