coupling photo of ndls-trivandrum rajdhani at sindhudurg station, awaiting crossing by trivandrum-ndls rajdhani. i was in mandovi express waiting for these 2 crossings.
why there are 6 coupling tubes in rajdhani (as seen in photo) & just 2 in regular express trains?

Just a guess... probably 3 for each side related to brakes, and possible fail safe/redundant backups? I've also noticed such coupling between electric/diesel locos in tandem. My understanding of those is to do with control of engines symmetrically from front engine. I would be v. happy for additional info on this.. Thanks for the post
