Talking of " it hardly works " I am reminded of an anecdote BG. A senior officer wanted to give a ZABARDAST confidential report to his subordinate X who was due for a promotion. So he wrote in the CR, " X hardly works" instead of "X works hard". He was in for a rude shock when X missed his promotion because of those well-meant remarks.
