Waltair Division, the highest revenue earner both in terms of goods and passenger traffic, which serves 2 ports, major industries such as Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), has several advantages.
According to Rajya Sabha Member T. Subbarami Reddy, But, all these advantages are negated by the ‘step motherly treatment’ by the zonal headquarters.
In a letter to Railway Minister Mallikharjun Kharge on Wednesday, Mr. Subbarami Reddy suggested the formation of new zone with Visakhapatnam as headquarters and adding of Vijayawada, Guntur and Guntakal Divisions. Visakhapatnam has the land
required for creation of zonal headquarters, residential quarters and other infrastructure.
Visakhapatnam Railway Station has eight platforms with provision for expansion up to 8 more lines.
Due to neglect by the zonal headquarters and the administration, no new lines were sanctioned nor a survey ordered in the region.
S.Kota- Narsipatnam-Rampachodavaram –Polavaram to connect the tribal and remote areas of the region, a new line connecting the coastal belt between Naupada-Srikakulam-Bhimili-Kakinada, doubling of Kothavalasa-Kirandul line on priority basis and two new lines between Visakhapatnam and Kothapalem junction for seamless travel between Vijayawada – Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram – Visakhapatnam to prevent detention of rail.
Visakhapatnam with a population of 20 lakhs and industrial investments to the tune of INR 1,60,00,000, 4 universities, places of religious and tourist interest, requires connectivity to all parts of India.

Sensible idea. SER+(ECoR-WAT) can be shifted to BBSR and be called SER.
