To avoid wild animals getting hit by train the Supreme Court has ordered the drivers to operate the train at low speeds in the forest areas.
The bench comprising of judges KS Radhakrishnan and AK Sikri gave this verdict for the petition filed by Sakthi Prasad Nayak. The petition was filed with the number of wild animals including elephants getting hit by train annually.
The judges ordered the Southern Railway to instruct the drivers to operate the trains at low speed in forest areas. Action should be taken on those drivers
who do not follow the order.
Most accidents occur between Silguri-Falakatta in West Bengal. So the Judges suggested considering the state government request to operate the express trains at night in an alternative route.
