The reason for this is that IR has inflated a portion of the distance. Besides the general 40% distance inflation in the Konkan section, it has been observed that many small sections of rail track throughout the country, have been selectively inflated for distance, depending on circumstance.

In the above route, the Brahmaputra river crossing bridge of the rail track seems to have been distance inflated by 20 kms., as shown on your ticket. This is the reason for this discrepancy. IRI distances are ACTUAL distances to within + or - 2kms,...
