If you're headed to Kumbakonam, it's better to get off at Tanjavur instead of Needamangalam because you'll have to wait 30 minutes on the bus to pass through this station. The train will change direction here and the road the bus takes goes right through the station. There's no bridge over this station, so the bus will be stopped by the level crossing gate until the train changes direction.
