The southern half of the IR network has some astonishing specimens running that make you raise a couple of questions. Or broadly speaking, just one precise question in each case.

Chennai Madurai Duronto has the most convenient timings an overnight can possibly sport. Add to that the tremendous rush of people shuttling between the two cities. But how tough was it to imagine that this tremendous rush peaks on Friday from one side and on Sundays from the other? At the point in history where technical halts were being converted into commercial to cure the ailments of this breed of trains, condition of this guy was like that of a cancer patient who’s being injected with insulin just because his doctor has other thoughts as it hasn’t been long since Vyapam.

Thiruvananthapuram Duronto, on account of being a Friday departure, partially hit it right to begin with. Beautiful return timings did it have, just in time for office hours with the only fault that almost nobody had office to attend on its day of arrival. Tiny mistake was it and just when we thought it was being corrected, SR did what the officials of Election Commission do to your Voter ID card when you request them for a correction. Well, yeah. They make another mistake, elsewhere. They moved its arrival to the day you can directly head to office on but no longer on office timings.

19419 Chennai - Ahmedabad Express has been a path-breaking idea since Navjeevan in bringing the travel time down while also saving a day for the Gujarat bound passengers. Its slot being free on the weekends and announcement of an Ahmedabad - Chennai Humsafar made people think that this undoubtedly has to be the weekend version of 9420. Cut to today and you’ve another reason to ask the very same question that’s being asked across these stories. Am I the only one with the rationale to think that a Saturday departure could’ve become a Sunday overnight from PUNE to ADI? What more of a win-win can one ask for?

A full AC train to Rajasthan from Chennai departs when? On a Thursday. Trichy Humsafar was slow by some 5 odd hours just to make it an overnight between Trichy and Bangalore. When? On a Thursday. YPR KCVL Garib Rath which can easily ferry the Friday night rush of Kerala bound techies departs when? On a Thursday. SWR also sends the full AC rake of YPR DEE Duronto to Kochuveli. When? On. A. Thursday. And what doesn’t happen on a Thursday? Well, the Delhi bound Yesvantpur Duronto doesn’t depart on a Thursday which’d have otherwise allowed it to depart on Saturdays from Delhi making it profitable both ways. But that’d probably be too logical by IR standards.

It’s imperative to understand that after over a century of us Indians being used to the subsided non-AC travel, it’d take some time for exclusively air-conditioned trains to be successful wherever they’re launched. To begin with, it is only logical to deploy them on the right days. These little changes can fix bigger problems and pave way for economic viability for more of such services in near future.

Nice article. But all this is due to heavy load of bus lobby and lethargic attitude of not railway ministry but the local zone level officers whose pockets are regularly filled by black cash.

My Coach - D8
One more journey to hometown. We came to Station at 17:30. As usual, our train was on Platform 5. PF 6 occupied by Pune Bilaspur, PF 4 by Mumbai Intercity, PF 3 by Chennai Ahmedabad, PF 2 by Lonawala Local and PF 1 by Jhelum.
As PF 4 & 5 both are having Intercity one is to Mumbai & other to Solapur, I found people bit confused about which train to take.
As Pune Bilaspur departed late, our train also started late by 10 mins from Pune. As there are back to back trains in Pune Daund section, Hutatma always delayed in this stretch and after waiting couple of mins at Daund outer came to Station late by 25 mins. After brief hault of 2 mins departed around 19:30.
Now our Solapur Division started. Controller given Top++ priority to Hutatma and kept all UP Trains on loop line. From Daund to Dhavlas it ran Non-Stop. At Dhavlas, 11020 was on up loop line and my train was on down loop line. After couple of mins 12026 came with WDP-4D, driver was madly honking. Shatabdi crosses our train in fraction of second. After Shatabdi passes, my train again started accelerating and reached Kurduwadi at 21:00.
Immediately it was departed from Kurduwadi and reached Solapur at sharp 22:00. Driver covers Daund to Solapur distance in just 2 hrs 30 mins with Kurduwadi hault & Shatabdi crossing at Dhavlas.
Enroute I have seen 17031 looped at Mundhewadi at my train overtakes 17031 with mind blowing speed.
As always, I enjoyed my journey.. :)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be invited to inaugurate the Bidar-Kalaburagi railway line, MP Bhagwant Khuba said in Bidar on Wednesday.
He was speaking at an event to flag off the Bidar-Mumbai overnight train at the Bidar railway station.
The train numbered 22144/22143 has been extended from Latur in Maharashtra. It runs three times a week between the two cities.

KSRTC operates close to 250 bus every day on the route or via Hasan to other destinations like Mangaluru.
Now, the Corporation has made the changes in schedules keeping in mind train timings.
An KSRTC official said that in long run the train services will not make much impact on the transport corporation.
KSRTC, managing director, SR Umashankar said, “I would say that the train services have a marginal impact on our services.There was drop in the occupancy rate as some section of passengers have shifted to new mode of transport. However, we are regaining the passenger occupancy. The officials have rescheduled the operations with more number of frequencies. There are express services with limited number of stops. We don't think in the long run, train services can be a substitute to our services.The reason is bus service have more flexible timings and buses take lesser time to reach compared to trains.“ Another KSRTC official said that though a good number of trains are operated between Bengaluru and Mysuru it has not made much impact on services of KSRTC and transport corporation has managed to increase the service over the years.
Even when the TumkurBengaluru train services was introduced there were some apprehensions, but, it has not made a big impact in long run.Meanwhile, South-Western Railway officials said that the train services between Hassan and Bengaluru has been receiving good patronage.
“More than 400 trips are operated between the two cities. The corporation also operates hundreds of AC services between the two cities and it has been receiving good patronage from the public.“
An official said, “The patronage for inter-city services is really good. Occupancy for reserved compartment is between 70 to 80 per cent and even for non-reservation the response has been good. The railways generates a revenue of Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh per day from the commercial operations. Occupancy rate for departures from the Hassan side is higher when compared to Yeshwanthpur. As the trains were introduced only a few weeks back it would take time to stabilize and the passenger rate likely to increase in coming days.“
The inter-city express services between Hassan and Bengaluru was launched almost almost two decades after the project was sanctioned.

See this is SWR and how they are meeting out the treatment to Hassan. Intentionally delaying train and keeping less number of coaches. TT was devised in such a way that it always gets delayed.

Kudla maintains 57 avg. Giving unrealistic 63 causes delay.
