Feb 29 2020 (16:16)   Terminate long-distance trains outside city: Surya

Highlighting the city’s mobility crisis, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya on Friday said 14 Bengaluru-bound long-distance trains should terminate on the outskirts and a local train should run in the city every 10 minutes during peak hours.
Surya, who submitted a representation to the railway ministry, held talks with divisional railway manager (Bengaluru) Ashok Kumar Verma on how train-related infrastructure could be ramped up to improve the traffic situation. Batting for #Peak-HoursForLocals campaign, Surya said it is necessary to prioritise intra-city commute for officegoers during peak hours over long-distance travel from other states.

MP presented a list of long-distance trains entering city limits during peak hours and suggested their terminating points be shifted to satellite stations like Byappanahalli, Yelahanka, Doddaballapura, Hosur and Bidadi. He felt Memu/Demu trains should operate within the city from 6am to 10am and from 4pm to 9pm every day.
“Bengaluru’s roads are operating beyond saturation point and mass transit options of BMTC buses and Metro are insufficient to address the current travel demand,” he said. He suggested the train from Nagercoil be terminated at Hosur; Kannur train at Bidadi; Mumbai train at Doddaballapura/Yelahanka; Kanyakumari, Ernakulam, Patna, Tirupati and Latur trains at Byappanahalli. He sought a superfast express between Bengaluru and Mumbai.

For the SWR to do as suggested by the MP, i think there needs to be strong local rail network to connect all these stations internally.
Instead of putting across such suggestions, he should go to the Rail ministry and get more funds allotted for the suburban rail and get it on fastrack for execution first

But consider passengers having to get down from or boarding Nagercoil express at HSRA instead of SBC. Does this MP have any suggestion on how can the passengers reach Bangalore.
First let him get funds from Rail Ministry for doubling and electrification such lines and run many more MEMU trains, before this suggestion can even be considered.
The funny part is MP wants a new train to Mumbai from Bangalore, not Yelahanka!!

South Western Railway (SWR) proposed to introduce one more train between Mysuru and Bengaluru.
If the railway board approves the proposal, Kochuveli (KCVL) – Bengaluru Express will be extended till Mysuru, said E Vijaya, PRO, SWR. According to the proposal, the train will start from Bengaluru at 8.45am and reach Mysuru at 11.20am. In the return direction, it will leave Mysuru at 12.50pm and reach Bengaluru at 4.35pm. “The train will help tourists from Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu,” said an official.
However, passengers feel the train timing is unscientific. “In the

return direction, between Mysuru and Bengaluru, it will take more than three hours. If the train’s speed is not improved, no passenger will use it. There are alternatives like Shatabdi,” said Raghottam, a marketing executive.
“Several railway users’ forums have raised this issue. The board needs to look into it,” said an officer.

But who would take this train when Basava Express takes less time to reach SBC from MYS.
It remains to be seen how many passengers to Tamil Nadu and Kerala would prefer this train

Yes. But the reason why it takes more time could be due to the OT by Shatabdi

I have doubts about that. For the recently extended 12786, SBC falls under RLWL, which I think would be the fate for this train too.

Any destination from SBC is under RL quota.
It is the source station, not destination, that determines the quota, i feel
